Coral Reef Care

Conservation and protection of marine ecosystems (Indonesia)

CRC initiates and organizes reef conservation projects and raises public awareness of the importance of coral reefs and the threats they face. Our main efforts to protect the reefs are focused on establishing more marine protected areas. While about 16% of the world's land area is protected, less than 3% of the world's oceans are seriously protected, even though 70% of the earth is covered by water. Actively protecting a large marine area under the right conditions increases the chances of the ecosystem recovering. These protected areas provide refuge, breeding grounds and food, which has a positive effect on the surrounding areas. This phenomenon, known as the spillover effect, occurs when adult marine life migrates out of the protected area and the neighbouring ecosystems benefit.

Protecting people, empowering people
Climate change is increasing the pressure on marine resources, as higher water temperatures are leading to the death of corals. Tourism is putting additional pressure on the environment; pollution and anchored excursion boats are damaging the coral reefs.
Healthy coral reefs are crucial for the entire marine food chain and therefore also for feeding the coastal population.
This is why AB Aqua Medic GmbH supports the organization marinecultures.org by providing Reef Construct (coral glue) for the reforestation of coral reefs.

Protect coral reefs

Healthy coral reefs are vital for the survival of humans and the environment. They are an important source of nutrients for marine life and generate income through fishing and as a tourist attraction.
